Thank you for supporting the Bill McLaren Foundation!
The Bill McLaren Foundation has given over £900,000 to good causes mainly in Scotland but also further afield in Africa, Hong Kong and New Zealand. Our giving is mainly to grassroot clubs but we also support other charities and organisations. To date we have given funding to the following:
The Positive Coaching Scotland programme driven by Winning Scotland Foundation and delivered by the SRU - Helping younsters develop life skills through playing rugby - something that epitomises what Bill McLaren did as a teacher in Hawick - £130,000
The Bhubesi Pride project in Africa which gives aspiring coaches the chance to deliver to young people life skills and health messages through playing rugby in several countries from Kenya to South Africa over a seven month period. We initially funded the transport costs but now provide bursaries for up to eight young people so they can have a life changing experience - £56,000
Over 70 grants to clubs mainly in Scotland, many to help support funding for Development Officers and Assistant Development Officers - £239,000
Helping clubs and trusts help themselves by raising funds from partnership events. We help clubs run events, be it lunches or dinners and share in the proceeds with them - £379,000
We have also given funds to overseas projects in Hong Kong, New Zealand, South Africa and Bahrain - £47,000
Although our main thrust is supporting teams we have helped certain individuals in realising their dreams. We also have given funding to support Disabled groups play sport - £32,000
We are supporting Doddie Weir’s Foundation by providing an exclusive Big Sheet which is being used to help with his fund raising - £45,000 so far to date
