Kesteven RFC join Supporters' Club

Welcome to Kesteven RFC! Kesteven RFC (Ist XV pictured) are the first rugby club to join the Supporters' Club since the club was launched officially.

"I was privileged to have been taught by Bill McLaren at Hawick High School in 1961/2. He took our Wednesday afternoon rugby coaching sessions and instilled a great love for the game which has never left me. He used to stop our training games and ask us, the boys, to explain why he had blown his whistle and we had to show him that we understood the laws of the game.

Like everynoe else I loved his commentaries. My favourite commentary though is of Hawick winning the innaugural Scottish Cup in 1996. He was impartial as usual - but John Jeffrey, his fellow commentator that day indulged him as the Greens came through to win in the end. I met him many times and he was always the same person. He loved Rugby - he loved Hawick!

I would add that as Secretary of Kesteven Rugby Club in Grantham I would always try to instill in our the club the values Bill taught me at the High School, and that he brought to the world of rugby through his work in the schools in Hawick, and to the wider world through his commentaries.

I am proud to be able to spread the word of the Foundation down here in Lincolnshire. The fact that i have been involved in club rugby in Scotland at Linlithgow and at Kesteven as a player, referee, adminstrator for over 40 years is no small part to the seeds sown at Hawick High School in the 60s."
