On 20th August the inaugural Bill McLaren Celeb AM, sponsored by Sainsbury’s took place at Hawick Golf Club. The event was held to raise funds for the Bill McLaren Foundation.
The day started with the renaming of the 16th hole as McLarens Miracle, where ‘Voice of Rugby’ Bill McLaren scored a hole in one at the 292-yard par four.
Foundation sponsor, Johnstons of Elgin teamed up with Gregor Townsend (Scotland, British Lions & current Scotland Attack Coach) to win the event.
Johnstons Managing Director, Hawick, Nick Bannerman said, “As one of the founder sponsors of the Bill McLaren Foundation it was great to see the Johnstons of Elgin Team win. This event marks the start of events worldwide to raise funds for the Bill McLaren Foundation which will in turn be used to develop and promote the sport of rugby union and its values. To encourage and provide sporting
opportunities for young people and to create an educative centre which will include the Bill McLaren Archive”.
