Record crowds at Turnberry Beach Rugby Festival

The fourth annual Turnberry Beach Rugby took place on the beautiful South Ayrshire coast on Saturday 4th July, 2015 with hundreds of spectators enjoying some five-a-side rugby by the sea.

The rugby kicked off  with the Legacy Event, which was well attended by boys and girls, several of whom were playing rugby for the first time. The Logan the Jewellers Trophy was won by a mixed U18s Ayr team.

The adults’ event featured eight men’s and six women’s teams from all over the country, competing in some good-natured and entertaining ties. Between the games, the Elite Pro Dance Troupe wowed the crowd with their daring gymnastic routines. Scottish Beach Volleyball taster sessions were a welcome addition to this year’s TBR, and were extremely successful as the sun broke through later in the afternoon.

The skill and excitement levels were raised for the knock-out stages, and as the spectators reached for the sun cream, the Bill McLaren Foundation (BMF) took on Hillhead in the women’s final. With several Scotland international players in the Hills team, they claimed the Logan the Jewellers Trophy for the fourth consecutive year. Congratulations also for the men’s final, BMF came from behind to beat Glasgow’s Biggest Tickets (GBT) and win the Logan the Jewellers Trophy for the second year in a row.

The Foundation is honoured to be one of the main charity beneficiaries of this event, which has grown vastly in popularity and now etched in the social calender. We also wish to congratulate the organisers for their dedication and commitment, we are extremely proud to be associated.
