The BMF Hawick Golf Day 2026 - ‘Sunshine on Hawick’

The sun shone, the wind dropped and there was plenty of friendly competition on the fairways as 18 teams came together for the annual Bill McLaren Foundation Hawick Golf Day on Friday 21 August.
Held at Hawick Golf Club, where Bill himself was a member and played almost every day, the Golf Day is always a particularly special date in the Foundation calendar. Bringing together friends, supporters and some very familiar faces from the world of Scottish rugby for a day of golf, fundraising and good fun in Bill’s home town.
Despite a weather forecast that had us packing our raincoats, Hawick had other ideas! The wind dropped, the sun came out and conditions were set for a fantastic day on the course.
Among our 18 teams were no fewer than11 former and current Scottish rugby internationalists, alongside supporters of the Foundation, friends and BMF Trustees; some playing, others providing enthusiastic support from the sidelines.
And there was plenty to cheer about.
Congratulations to Rory Lawson, Nikki Walker, Greg Kinross and Darcy Graham, who produced a quite remarkable winning score of 30 out and 30 back – a fantastic round of 52.2 once their handicap average was removed!
Alongside the main team competition, there was individual glory up for grabs with our Longest Drive and Nearest the Pin competitions.

While there was certainly some serious competition out on the course, the Hawick Golf Day has always been about much more than the scorecard.
Bill loved his golf and Hawick Golf Club was a huge part of his life. Bringing people together at a place where he spent so many happy hours feels a very fitting way to remember him, while raising funds to help The Bill McLaren Foundation continue its work providing sporting opportunities across Scotland and beyond.
A huge thank you to everyone who entered a team, joined us on the day, supported the Foundation and helped make the 2026 Golf Day such a success. Thanks to the 11 caddies who supported and entertained our teams around the course. And, of course, thank you to Hawick Golf Club for once again making us so welcome.
There was sunshine, laughter, some terrific golf and perhaps the occasional shot that was best forgotten by the time everyone reached the clubhouse!
